Facts about beer 1: Drinking beer makes you fat
Wrong – Let’s wipe out the most common misconception about beer: beer doesn’t make you fatter – if you drink it responsibly, of course. Beer is made of approximately 90 to 95% of water, cereals, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins and alcohol. Compared to other alcoholic beverages, for the same alcoholic level, the beer contains far less calories than wine for example. After many scientific studies on men and women drinking beer during their meals, the researches showed no significant weight gain. Beer is more nutritive than water and help us eat less. If it doesn’t help loose weight, it doesn’t help get some. Beer doesn’t gives you a fat belly, but what goes with can – peanuts, cold cuts, fat meat, sauerkraut, etc.
Facts about beer 2: Beer is good for breastfeeding
Right – It might irritate some but it’s true. We are of course talking about non-alcoholic beers here; one do not offers beer to breastfeeding women. It was originally a popular belief. On the advertisement boards during the 50s you could see mothers breastfeeding their babies while sipping a beer. The idea was verified later: It is the beta-glucan, a malt compound, which stimulates the production of milk.

Right and Wrong – If a cold beer is welcome during the extra hot Saigon’s hot season days in Vietnam, some beers, like wines, have to be drink at room temperature. Generally speaking the darker the beer, the warmer it has to be drunk. Dark beers often have rich and complex aromatic profiles, which can be altered by the cold. The wheat beers, light and lager, have to be drunk cold.

Right and Wrong – Less entertaining, the glass of water remains our best ally when very thirsty. But some beers can quench our thirst if they are low in alcohol, in sugar and contain a high level of hop.

Right – It seems funny at first, but after workout, beer really rehydrate the body. Studies have confirmed that beer rehydrate the body faster than water, thanks to the nutrients and minerals it contains.
Facts about beer 6: Beer brightens and reinforces your hair
Right – But don’t go straight and deep your hair in a beer bucket. One can once in a while rinse his hair with non-filtered wheat beer, which had been re-fermented with yeast. But you better use beer yeast capsules, which strengthened your nails as well.
Facts about beer 7: Beer helps you sleep
Right (tell me about it…) – During the middle age, hop was known for its soothing and antiseptic properties. The discovery was made by Hildegarde de Bingen (XIIth century), a German botanist. It’s partially thanks to her recommendations the trappist monks developed the hop culture and brewers added it to the fabrication process.
Facts about beer 8: Beer help to fight osteoporosis
Right – A little beer at Bar 5 Saigon for stronger bones? Ho yeahhh! Beer contains some ingredients of ethanol, which can help fight the bone mass loss, and silicon, a trace element present in most bone tissue helping protect them.
Facts about beer 9: Beer is good for kidneys
Right – The drink is diuretic, as you can notice by your frequent visit to the toilets once your belly is empty. It helps eliminating toxins from the body.
